Strengthening Community Engagement in the Fight Against Tickborne Diseases

Through ISIDORe, researchers from the Institut Pasteur’s Anthropology and Ecology of Disease Emergence unit accessed the MORU Community Engagement Facility in Bangkok to undergo hands-on training on strategies to engage local communities in controlling vector-borne diseases. Led by Prof. Phaik Yeong Cheah’s expert team, the training focused on integrating community engagement (CE) into research and interventions for two tickborne diseases of growing concern: Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) and Tickborne Encephalitis (TBE). Participants developed tailored CE approaches, identified key stakeholders, and explored tools to implement effective local engagement. This capacity-building initiative will be embedded into upcoming research projects and doctoral training programs, enhancing preparedness for emerging vector-borne threats.
