What is TRANSNATIONAL ACCESS?
Transnational Access (TNA) programmes are meant to optimise the use of European research capacities and allow scientists to access facilities, equipment, expertise and resources that they do not have access to in their institution or at a national level.
There are two ways for external users to benefit from TNA, depending on the specific service they apply for:
- In person (physical access), with users physically visiting the facility/installation and receiving the service “hands-on”
- Remotely (remote access), with resources and services implemented by partners laboratories for the users, in case they cannot physically visit the facility/installation
The access is free of charge and includes the logistical, technological and scientific support and, when appropriate, the specific training that is needed to use the services provided by the research facilities.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Support for transnational access to the ISIDORe services can be provided to scientists from both public and private entities worldwide.
Access will be provided according to Horizon Europe TNA rules. At least 80% of access provision must benefit users from EU Member States or countries associated to Horizon Europe, while up to 20% may support international users where justified and eligible under ISIDORe II rules.
In line with European Council Regulations, Russian researchers included in the sanctions list and researchers affiliated to Russian public entities are not eligible for access to ISIDORe services.
As the aim of TNA activities is to facilitate access to unique services and resources usually unavailable to most scientists, and promote research with a cross-border dimension, selected studies / proposals must be conducted / implemented in a country different from that of the users’ affiliation.
Proposals can be submitted by a group of scientists. Young scientists (PhD students, post-doctoral or early career researchers), scientists with limited prior experience in using facilities or resources through TNA, and Small & Medium Enterprises (SME) are particularly welcome.
HOW TO APPLY
Scientists that wish to benefit from the support of ISIDORe are requested to submit proposals that will be evaluated based on their feasibility and scientific merit (independent peer review).

Which proposals are eligible?
Proposals for accessing our services are eligible if they meet the following criteria:
- Applicants have obtained an ISIDORe ID number through their initial application.
- Transnationality: Support will be provided to applicants that do not usually have access to the laboratory or research capacities they are applying for in the country they work in.
- Affiliation: At least 80% of access provision must benefit users from EU Member States or countries associated to Horizon Europe, while up to 20% may support international users where justified and eligible under ISIDORe II rules.
- Dissemination: Users shall be entitled to and are required to disseminate the knowledge they will generate under the project, unless coming from the private sector.
What is covered by TNA support?
The TNA support includes administrative and logistical support, access (in person or remote) to ISIDORe facilities, performance of laboratory experiments, technical and scientific advice.
In case a project will require a financial support going beyond the availability of funding, this can be clarified before implementation of the projects, and users may be requested to adapt the request or contribute.
What to expect once a proposal has been awarded TNA?
Selected applicants will be contacted by the ISIDORe team to make arrangements for the implementation of their projects and will be assisted throughout the whole duration of transnational access.
