The 2nd ISIDORe User Conference brought together Europe’s leading infectious disease researchers, public health experts, and scientific infrastructure partners for two days of dynamic discussion, collaboration, and knowledge exchange. Held in Paris on June 11–12, 2025, the event showcased ISIDORe’s pivotal role in advancing research preparedness and pandemic response across disciplines.
Strategic Insights
The conference opened with warm remarks from Jonathan Ewbank and Audrey S. Richard, setting the tone for a future-focused and collaborative gathering. Keynote speakers Hervé Raoul (BeReady) and Tamas Bakonyi (ECDC) provided a compelling outlook on current and emerging challenges in epidemic preparedness.

TNA Session – Surveillance, Diagnostics & Social Sciences
The first session focused on surveillance, diagnostics, vector control, and social sciences, highlighting real-world use cases of ISIDORe support. Presentations included:
- Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) strain research from Spain by Jose Francisco Ruiz-Fons
- SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic workflows and variant tracking by Melina Hardt, Thorsten Voss, and Miriam Latorre Millán
- Long COVID information-seeking behavior studied by Jonathan Sobel
- Fieldwork on vector control and malaria transmission by Eleonora Flacio and Pablo Suárez Cortés
The session underlined the power of cross-disciplinary approaches to improving public health preparedness.

JRA Session – From Advanced Models to Field Response
The second day celebrated ISIDORe’s Joint Research Activities (JRA) with energy and enthusiasm. Peter Doran (University College Dublin) opened the session with strong praise for ISIDORe’s operational coordination and scientific ambition. Notable presentations included:
- VIRAL (Bart Haagmans), RES4PRIOPATH (Francisco Castillo), OptiGuideMalVac (Erica Pasini), STICK-EM (Tamara Giles-Vernick)
- Talks on vector-borne disease models (Barry Rockx), early detection of West Nile virus (Eva Veronesi), and digital pathology (Lauro Sumoy)
- Sylvain Brisse closed the session with insights into genomic taxonomy for outbreak response (CENTAUR)
