Missed the webinar? A practical guide to applying for the ISIDORe II Andes virus call

Are you working on Andes virus or ANDV-relevant hantavirus research and need access to specialised facilities, models or expertise? ISIDORe II’s first call for proposals could support your work. Following our information webinar on 28 September, here are the key points you need to know to decide whether the call fits your research and to prepare your application.

ISIDORe II provides researchers with free-of-charge Transnational Access (TNA) to specialised research infrastructure services.

ISIDORe II does not award a grant to you or to your institution. Instead, the project covers the cost of the services that will be delivered by participating research infrastructures. Depending on your proposal or request, access to services may be provided on site or remotely.

The current call on Andes virus or ANDV-relevant hantavirus research is open until 11 December 2026.

The primary focus must be Andes virus (ANDV). Research involving other hantaviruses can be considered when it is clearly relevant to ANDV research and this relevance is justified in the proposal.

Proposals should address at least one of three priority areas:

  • Therapeutic and non-vaccine prophylactic candidate evaluation, particularly the evaluation or characterisation of existing candidates;
  • Diagnostic tools, assays, reagents and reference materials for ANDV-relevant research;
  • ANDV-relevant models, experimental systems and readouts, including models for pathogenesis, tropism, host-response studies or medical countermeasure research.

The call is designed to support specific, well-defined research needs. Routine diagnostics and surveillance, clinical trials, manufacturing and manufacturing scale-up, broad untargeted screening campaigns and entirely new service development are outside its scope.

Before applying, read the full call text carefully. It provides examples of research that is in and out of scope.

The ISIDORe II catalogue brings together a broad range of capabilities, including analytical services, drug discovery, ex vivo and in vivo models, imaging, immunomonitoring and profiling, reference materials, structural biology, regulatory advice and clinical research support.

You can request more than one service when this makes sense for your research proposal. Limited adaptation or co-development of an existing service available under this call may also be possible.

Remember that the catalogue has a broader scope than the call itself. A service or capability being listed in the catalogue does not necessarily mean that all its potential applications are eligible under the specific call.

Always check your proposed research against the call text.

The process starts with a pre-application:

  • Step 1: Read the call criteria and eligibility conditions.
  • Step 2: Browse the ISIDORe catalogue and select the service or services your research needs.
  • Step 3: Log in to the Access Management System and complete the short pre-application form. You can save it as a draft and return to it later.
  • Step 4: After submission, you will receive a unique ISIDORe project ID. Keep it: you should use this ID in all subsequent correspondence about your application.
  • Step 5: The relevant ISIDORe partner will contact you with instructions for preparing your full application. The pre-application is an eligibility and feasibility step; the full application is the one that undergoes scientific evaluation.
  • Step 6: Submit your full application by 11 December 2026. The scientific evaluation will be conducted through a peer-review process during January–February 2027, with applicants expected to receive results around the beginning of March 2027.

Three points are particularly important:

  • Scientific relevance: Does your proposal address a clear ANDV-related research need and fit the call priorities?
  • Added value of ISIDORe access: Why do you need the requested ISIDORe service or expertise? Explain why you need access to the requested ISIDORe services or capabilities, and what they will enable you to achieve that you cannot readily achieve using the resources available at your own institution.
  • Feasibility: Is the service you are requesting available in the catalogue, and can the proposed work realistically be carried out using that service?

Applicants do not need to know every technical detail of service implementation when applying: the ISIDORe team and service providers will support refine these aspects.

Who can apply?
Researchers from academia, public research organisations, public-health-linked bodies, industry, SMEs and other relevant research-performing organisations can apply. International applicants are also eligible, subject to Horizon Europe TNA rules.

Can I submit more than one application?
Yes. There is no restriction on submitting multiple pre-applications or participating in several research teams.

Should I contact a service provider before applying?
No. Focus on the service you need rather than choosing a specific facility. The ISIDORe teams and the RIs will study your request and coordinate at best to propose the appropriate service provider(s) to perform your research.

What about ethics and biosecurity?
Applicants may need to provide information on ethical aspects of the background research and complete a dual-use research assessment. These requirements are part of the support process, and the ISIDORe team can guide applicants through them.

Download the full call, browse the available services and start your pre-application well ahead of the 11 December 2026 deadline.
